  • IS BREAD & CIRCUS TAKING PLACE IN 2022?

  • Yes – Bread & Circus dates have been announced as 22 April - 1 May 2022. The festival site is open Wednesday to Sunday from 11am to 6pm and till late on both Friday and Saturday nights.

  • WHERE IS THE FESTIVAL LOCATED?

  • The Bread & Circus Festival Playground is located at Victoria Square and The Commons in Central Christchurch. The festival site is open Wednesday to Sunday from 11am to 6pm and till late on both Friday and Saturday nights.

  • WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

  • The Bread & Circus Festival Playground is a general admission area located on the grass in front of the main stages, so please bring a picnic blanket or rug to sit on and reserve your spot!

    If you are bringing along picnic chairs please make sure they are low to the ground as to not block the view of your fellow festival friends. Tall chairs / tables will be asked to move to the back.

    There will be plenty of food, drink and entertainment available across the day.

    Don't forget sunscreen and a hat and cash to contribute into the hat of your favourite busker.


    NB: There will be some seats reserved for access patrons – please talk to our festival staff when you arrive – or shoot us an email [email protected] if you have any concerns.

  • WHAT IMPACT HAS COVID19 HAD ON BREAD & CIRCUS?

  • This year the festival will be located in one central place across Victoria Square and The Commons.

    The Bread & Circus Festival Playground will be open to all fully vaccinated patrons to enjoy. Just show your My Vaccine Pass upon entry and you’re good to go!

    Much like the 2021 festival, the 2022 event will be concentrated on New Zealand artists.

  • IS THE FESTIVAL PRECINCT ACCESSIBLE?

  • The Bread & Circus Festival Playground is a fully wheelchair accessible space, seats / sections of lawn can be reserved for people with a disability to ensure you are comfortable and can best access our Festival Playground.

  • WHEN WILL THE FULL PROGRAM BE RELEASED?

  • We will be announcing artists, festival attractions and food stalls between now and the event. Keep your eyes peeled!

  • The safety of performers, audience members and Bread & Circus festival staff is and always will be of utmost importance to the festival. The festival will continue to keep in close communication with all relevant Government departments to remain informed about the COVID-19 pandemic and any associated health guidelines or recommendations.
