A programme of three sensational works from the from the comfort of one of Christchurch’s loveliest homes.

Experience music full of captivating melodies and rhythmic poise as the quartet transport you from the turn of the nineteenth century to 2020.

The concert opens with one of Ludwig van Beethoven’s first string quartets, Op. 18, No. 6, which sings with Classical elegance, and musical ideas that could only be the inimitable Beethoven’s own.

Auckland composer Louise Webster’s this memory of earth brings a moment of reflection. Written for the NZSQ during the covid-19 lockdown, Webster crafts music with layered with textures and melodic snippets, reminding us of what we must treasure, reclaim, rebuild.

The richness and vibrancy of Czech colour shines in Bedřich Smetana’s String Quartet No. 2. A gem of late-Romantic era music rarely performed, don’t miss your chance to hear it played by one of this country’s finest ensembles.
